Stickimo Shop is an online sticker store started in November of 2020 purely as a creative outlet. I have always been passionate about lettering, but it was a skill I couldn’t use during my time as a graphic designer for a travel agency. And so, at the height of the pandemic, I opened an Etsy shop that showcased my lettering work.
I sent over 600 stickers to 45 states during my first three months. I was mailing out products so much that I had to invest in new printers and a cutting machine to keep up with the demand.
“Make others better.”
I learned that even if you have the skills, those alone aren’t enough. You have to pay attention to what you and your customers need to be successful. I had a solid identity and cohesive design style, but something was still missing. I explored what I want to get out of this whole venture. A few months ago, I chanced upon a quote that said, “Make others better.” This is exactly what I have been aiming for, but could not put it into words. Since then, before I create a new product, I sketch the ideas and then ask myself if it will make others better at what they aim to do. Most of the time, the answer is yes and I find this most thrilling as I get to let loose and have fun. Luckily, my customers thought the same.
The Stickimo Shop logo is a digitized version of my handwriting. Initially, I had a font-based logo. It was cute, child-like, and unfit for my customers who are serious diarists and planners. The old branding didn’t fit with the direction where I’m taking my shop. And so, I redesigned it. I wish I can say I went through many iterations, but the truth is, it only took two sketches. The second was me improving my first sketch. The logo is free-flowing, with a handcraft feel to it which is what the shop is all about.
Product Creation Process
My process of creating products is straightforward. I make what my customers need based on my observations of them. Many are book lovers and so I made a whole line of products such as a book tracker, a book-themed habit tracker to keep them reading consistently, and stickers for decoration.
When it comes to the process of designing the stickers, I use pen and paper to sketch which I later digitized using Adobe Illustrator. I make some of my designs directly on an iPad using the Procreate app, which I later finalize with the help of Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.
